"Tremendously charming and sexy, Served Hot is a knockout!" – RT Book Reviews
In Portland, Oregon, the only thing hotter than the coffee shops, restaurants, and bakeries are the hard-working men who serve it up—hot, fresh, and ready to go—with no reservations…
Robby is a self-employed barista with a busy coffee cart, a warm smile, and a major crush on one of his customers. David is a handsome finance director who works nearby, eats lunch by himself, and expects nothing but “the usual”—small vanilla latte—from the cute guy in the cart. But when David shows up for his first Portland Pride festival, Robby works up the nerve to take their slow-brewing relationship to the next level. David, however, is newly out and single, still grieving the loss of his longtime lover, and unsure if he’s ready to date again. Yet with every fresh latte, sweet exchange—and near hook-up—David and Robby go from simmering to steaming to piping hot. The question is Will someone get burned?
First in the new Portland Heat series!

I love M/M romance books, I have read hundreds of all types, and enjoy writing reviews to let others know what I like to know before I buy a book.Let's start with the Cons: it isn't a very deep book. For some that is good, for me, not so much. If I am going to invest money in a book, I want the depth to be there. The characters were walking on eggshells for most of the story, and it got old quickly. I didn't feel, that the one person POV worked in this books favor AT ALL! If we had been able to see and know what David was thinking and feeling like we did Robby, it would have been so much more satisfying to see them work out their problems. The single POV was frustrating and left so much unknown. The love scenes were good, but not tingle In My tummy great. There was a HUGE amount of potential here for David to become more outspoken and sexier, but if fell way flat and didn't happen.
Now the Pros: the cost for the amount of book was good. It didn't hurt me to pay 1.99 for the length of story that was told. I also felt that the back stories were really well laid out and the most informative part of the entire plot. We saw David and understood his thoughts and motivations when he was telling about his past. The ending was nice and complete. It gave a good idea about their future and showed a good amount of relationship growth with the setting at the end.
Overall, I probably won't revisit this book. I am however, going to give the second one in this series a chance. I always like to read more than one book by an author if the first book I pick is less than expected. So, we shall see..

Served Hot Portland Heat Book 1 edition by Annabeth Albert Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews
Annabeth Albert is quickly becoming one of my go-to authors for happy M/M romance, and I really liked both the main characters here, BUT this just wasn't a very good book. It felt more like an unfinished sketch of something that I would have super-loved if it reached its potential.
The bad first There are just too many repetitions of Robby ping-pongs in his head within 1-2 paragraphs "This is great! I'm really frustrated! It's totally fine, I can wait!" I see where Albert was trying to go, but she doesn't articulate his struggle with enough depth. Because of this, and because she hits the fast-forward button on Robby and David's relationship so often, Robby often struck me as whiny and impatient about David's attempts to heal and move forward from his past loss. Some of Robby's reactions come from his own past experiences, but his thoughts about those seemed too shallow to ground his fears. David's grief was much better articulated even though he wasn't the POV character, and as such, his actions and reactions were more sympathetic and comprehensible to me.
The good I loved watching these two date, as tentative as David is at first, it's totally sweet and super cute. I also loved that Albert gave David space for his pain and anger, instead of making the relationship with Robby into a magical healing moment. He was traumatized, and that doesn't just go away, but he makes a commitment to work on it.
Such a sweet book. Low angst (but still a bit of it), hot guys, COFFEE and a love story that will make you go "aww"many times.
It's the perfect quick read when in the mood for easy romance. And it is a quick read. It's a book easily read in one sitting, but even if it's short it's not too short. The story doesn't drag, but there's still enough space to deal with the guy's issues realistically without insta-love and insta-happy-ending.
Robby and David both had difficult past relationships and they fumble their way around a new one while still acting like adults. The angst is there but it doesn't simmer forever. Sure, they sometimes take a while to say things, but they do. They talk about it, try to figure it out. Put their feelings on the table and say "here's what's happening and why I'm acting that way".
I really liked how David's grief was dealt with. It's there but it's not the focus point either. And both their insecurities made sense.
And let's be honest, between the sheets? They're steamy! ... Like Robby's coffees which were a fun thing to read during the story.
I liked that they knew what they wanted and were willing to work for it. They're two grown up men, acting like grown ups and working their way through building something together. And it's very sweet to witness.
